GPCA will host an Investor Training on Trends in Fundraising and Secondaries in Hong Kong on 21 May 2024.

The training will be held at Debevoise & Plimpton from 9:30 am - 12 pm, comprising two sessions:

Session 1: Trends in the Current Fundraising Environment with Nick Thorn, Managing Director, EQT Group and Shawn Yang, Partner, Debevoise & Plimpton
Session 2: GP-Led Secondaries with Timothy Huang, Partner, Lexington Partners, Jude Wong, Director, Lazard and Martin Yung, Principal, HarbourVest Partners

Call for Participation: 2024 GPCA Deal Book and Awards

GPCA is pleased to invite GPCA Member firms to participate in the 2024 GPCA Deal Awards and GPCA Deal Book. Both initiatives highlight fund managers who have achieved extraordinary investment outcomes in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Central & Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

The GPCA Deal Awards program recognizes investments across five categories:

2024 GPCA Environmental Sustainability Award (an exit is not mandatory)
2024 GPCA Social Impact Award (an exit is not mandatory)
2024 GPCA Gender/Diversity Award (an exit is not mandatory)
2024 GPCA Innovation Award (an exit is not mandatory)
2024 GPCA Deal of the Year Award (requires a partial or full exit)

Member firms have the option to submit one deal for consideration for the Deal Awards, Deal Book or both.

To request a submission form and submit a deal, please contact Toluwani Adedeji at tadedeji@gpcapital.org. All submission forms must be completed and received by 14 June 2024. Please visit the GPCA website for more information on the GPCA Deal Awards program, including the 2023 winners, as well as previous editions of the GPCA Deal Book.

Winners will be chosen by an independent panel of LP judges and announced at the GPCA Investors Meeting in London on 19 November 2024.

Asia Members Meeting

25 April | Singapore

GPCA will host the next Asia Members Meeting in Singapore on 25 April 2024.

The meeting will be at White & Case from 4:30-6 pm, followed by a reception from 6-7 pm. This interactive discussion will highlight sustainability in 2024, including Responsible AI, increasing government regulation on reporting and how the "Year of Elections" can impact sustainability.

Speakers include David Katz (Managing Director, Global Public Affairs, KKR), Michael Tang (Head, Sustainable Development Office, SGX RegCo), Jaclyn Seow (Director, ESG & Impact, Openspace Ventures) and Jingyi Zhang (Senior Investment Officer, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)).

We will also present GPCA's report on private capital activity between Asia and the Middle East.

► Kotak Alternate Asset Managers and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority agreed to invest INR20b (~USD240m) in India-based real estate developer Prestige Group. #Asia

► General Atlantic acquired a majority stake in India-based hospital chain Ujala Healthcare from Eight Roads Ventures, Somerset Indus Capital and Evolvence Capital. #Asia

► AL Capital and Yang Ming Equity Investment Fund led a CNY2b (~USD276.4m) Series D for Terminus Technologies, a China-based AIoT platform for urban management, with participation from China Everbright, Futian Capital, Gemdale Group, SenseTime and others. #Asia

► TDHX Industrial Network Security, a China-based provider of industrial cybersecurity solutions, raised a CNY800m (~USD110.6m) Series E led by Svolt Capital, Beijing Jingguorui Equity Investment Fund Management and a fund set up by China Unicom and CICC Capital. #Asia

► Crescera Capital invested in Avantia Tecnologia, a Brazil-based security solutions company. #LatinAmerica

► D3 Bio, a China-based clinical-stage biotech company backed by Temasek, raised a USD62m Series A+ led by Medicxi, with follow-on from Matrix Partners China and WuXi AppTec. #Asia

► IFC and Victory Park Capital provided a USD30m loan to Habi, a Colombia-based residential real estate technology platform. #LatinAmerica

► Vantage Capital invested ZAR346m (~USD18.7m) in Procera Group, a South Africa-based provider of business process outsourcing services. #Africa

► Spectra Investments agreed to invest BRL50m (~USD9.6m) to anchor funds from OutField Ventures, a Brazil-based fund manager focused on sports and entertainment. Spectra is also acquiring a minority stake in the fund manager. #LatinAmerica

FUNDRAISING

► Verod-Kepple Africa Ventures reached a USD60m close for its first fund focused on early-stage companies building infrastructure for the digital economy across Africa. The fund received commitments from SCM Capital, Taiyo Holdings and C2C Global Education Japan. #Africa

EXITS

► The Rohatyn Group fully exited South Africa-based beverage manufacturer BevCo via a strategic sale to India-based bottler Varun Beverages. #Africa

► Bain Capital fully exited India-based private sector bank Axis Bank via block trades for INR35.7b (~USD429m). #Asia

► Affinity Equity Partners exited its 17.14% stake in Indonesia-based herbal medicine and food manufacturer Sido Muncul for IDR3.7t (~USD233.2m). #Asia
