Mediterrania | TGCC

GPCA Deal Book: Inclusive & Sustainable Growth

In July 2018, Mediterrania Capital Partners invested in Travaux Généraux de Construction de Casablanca (TGCC), a Morocco-based construction company executing large projects that span residential, hospitality, commercial, industrial, administrative and infrastructure segments.

With Mediterrania’s support, TGCC developed a comprehensive workplace health and safety protocol covering employees, as well as stakeholders linked to construction sites such as subcontractors, customers and suppliers. Mediterrania also assisted TGCC in implementing policies to close the gender pay gap, including mentorship and management support systems for women employees. The company brought the representation of women in support departments like finance and human resources to roughly 50% and focused on hiring women in even more heavily male-dominated construction site positions.

► Kotak Alternate Asset Managers led a INR32b (~USD384m) refinancing for Jayaswal Neco, an India-based steel products manufacturer, with participation from Edelweiss Group, Allianz and four private Indian companies. #Asia

► M&G led a USD340m Series E for Udaan, an India-based B2B trade platform for SMEs, with follow-on from Lightspeed Venture Partners and DST Global. #Asia

► SNB Capital and Sanabil Investments led a USD340m Series C for Tamara, a Saudi Arabia-based BNPL platform, with participation from Shorooq Partners, Pinnacle Capital and Impulse, as well as follow-on from Coatue, Endeavor Catalyst, Checkout.com and others. Following the Series C, Tamara has become Saudi Arabia’s first fintech unicorn. #MiddleEast

► CMG-SDIC Capital and IDG Capital led a CNY1b (~USD140m) Series B for Avistone, a China-based drug developer for tumor treatment, with participation from Yanchuang Capital and Cathay Capital Private Equity, as well as follow-on from Bain Capital. #Asia

► Anthelion Capital led a USD135m Series D for GreyOrange, an India-based automated warehouse systems provider, with follow-on from Mithril Capital, 3State Ventures, Blume Ventures and others. #Asia

► Brazilian asset manager XP acquired Vida Bem Vinda, a Brazil-based assisted reproduction clinic. #LatinAmerica

► ESTELA, an Ibero-American digital compliance company backed by Accel-KKR, acquired TCI, a Peru-based fiscal compliance platform for corporates. #LatinAmerica

► Prosperity7 Ventures led a USD47.3m Series B for Full-Life Technologies, a China-based radiotherapeutics company, with participation from Sky9 Capital, Summer Capital and GuanghuaWutong Fund, as well as follow-on from Chengwei Capital, HongShan and Junson Capital. #Asia

► Tribe Capital led a USD40m Series B for Kapital, a Mexico-based finance management platform for SMEs, with participation from Cervin Ventures, Tru Arrow, MS&AD Ventures and Alumni Ventures. Kapital also raised a USD125m debt round from an undisclosed investor. #LatinAmerica

► Tembici, a Brazil-based micro-mobility platform focused on bikes with operations in Chile, Argentina and Colombia, raised USD23m from the DFC and IDB Invest. #LatinAmerica

► GEF Capital and Signal Capital acquired a BRL120m (~USD24m) minority stake in GR Química, a Brazil-based water and sewage treatment product manufacturer. #LatinAmerica

► L Catterton led a Series A+ for Hi!Papa, a China-based children's personal care brand. #Asia

► Studenac, a Croatia-based retail chain backed by Enterprise Investors, acquired La-vor Trade, a retailer operating 16 stores in the northern Adriatic region of Istria. #CEE

► Criterion Africa Partners invested in Mozambique Fibra, a subsidiary of Mozambique Tree Farming. The company focuses on developing local processing and export opportunities for eucalyptus plantation products at the port of Beira. #Africa

FUNDRAISING

► The Northstar Group reached a USD140m final close for its maiden venture fund focusing on early-stage startups in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries. #Asia

► IFC agreed to invest USD50m in A.P. Moller Capital’s Emerging Markets Infrastructure Fund II, which has a USD1b target. The fund will focus on critical transport infrastructure and renewable energy projects in Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia. #Asia

EXITS

► Sumitomo Life agreed to fully acquire Singapore-based insurance company Singlife from TPG in a deal that values the company at SGD4.6b (~USD3.5b). #Asia

► Blackstone agreed to fully exit its 23.59% stake in Embassy Office Parks, an India-based real estate investment trust, for USD833m via block deals. #Asia

► ChrysCapital sold a 4.3% stake in India-based pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare product manufacturer Mankind Pharma for INR32.8b (~USD394m). #Asia

► Ardian acquired a portfolio of six Peru-based hydroelectric power plants from BTG Pactual, Patria Investments and GMR Holding, through its Ardian Clean Energy Evergreen Fund. #LatinAmerica

► PC Capital exited Rancho los Molinos, a Mexico-based distributor of vegetable seeds, soils and gardening products, to a group of investors led by Exitus Control. #LatinAmerica

► Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets agreed to exit the Romania-based assets of CEZ Vânzare, an integrated electricity conglomerate, through a sale to Premier Energy. #CEE
