30 January 2025 | Abu Dhabi

GPCA's Managing Director of VC & Tech Carlos Ramos de la Vega joined MEVCA Chairperson and GPCA Global Tech Council member Noor Sweid at the MEVCA Investors Summit 2025, delivering remarks on the trends shaping the MENA ecosystem.

Carlos highlighted the significant growth of VC investment in the Middle East, which reached USD600m in Q1-Q3 2024, accounting for 69% of all private capital deployed in the region. Fintech startups dominated, raising 51% of VC investment, followed by enterprise software companies at 13%. Increasing global interest in the region was evident, with Western investors contributing a third of all VC checks to Middle East startups in 2024, an 18% increase from 2023.

He emphasized the ecosystem's potential for global scale, citing the USD10.2b IPO of Talabat on the Dubai Financial Market as the largest tech IPO globally in 2024. Carlos also noted the crucial role of local government initiatives in fostering the ecosystem, such as Mubadala's involvement in Hub71 and the launch of a USD180m fund by ADQ and OIA to support MENA-based startups.
