LEADERSHIP COUNCILS

GPCA Energy Council Meeting: Key Takeaways

GPCA's Energy Leadership Council convened last week, led by Council Chair Lucy Heintz of Actis.

Untitled design (49)

Highlights of the discussion:

  • There has been a paradigm shift from “energy transition” to “energy addition,” with growing demand requiring new capacity rather than replacing existing sources. New demand patterns may favor renewable sources due to their speed of deployment.
  • Investors cautioned that AI-driven energy investment could mirror the overbuild of fiber networks in the early 2000s, with uncertain near-term commercial payoffs.
  • An integrated approach — from generation assets to transmission, distribution and manufacturing components — is required for renewable energy development, with battery energy storage systems critical for grid reliability.
  • Supply gaps, industrialization, manufacturing growth, supply chain shifts and the influx of global tech players are fueling energy investment opportunities outside of the US and Europe — even before considering the implications of AI.
