LAVCA has appointed Francisco Alvarez‑Demalde, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Riverwood Capital, as Board Chair, succeeding Nicolás Szekasy, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of KASZEK.

Also completing their terms are Mario Malta, Managing Director at Advent International, and Jose Sosa del Valle, Partner at Lexington Partners. The three retiring directors are being succeeded by:

Nicolás Szekasy, KASZEK

LAVCA caught up with KASZEK Co-Founder & Managing Partner Nico Szekasy to discuss KASZEK’s and the firm’s view on the current venture landscape in Latin America.  

 

Szekasy reflected on the growing depth of entrepreneurial talent in the region, noting the rise of second-time founders and professionals spinning out from multiple startups. He also shared Kaszek’s perspective on the next wave of AI-native businesses and the opportunities emerging across the application layer.

Deals

▸ Kora led a USD250m Series B for Plata, a Mexico-based digital bank, at a reported USD3.1b valuation, with participation from Moore Strategic Ventures, Audeo Ventures, Spice Expeditions, Hedosophia and undisclosed investors. 

  • Kora also led the USD160m Series A in March at a USD1b valuation. 
  • Plata is led by CEO Neri Tollardo, former VP of Strategy at Russian digital banking platform Tinkoff Bank. 

▸ Victory Park Capital provided a USD50m credit facility for ADDI, a Colombian point-of-sale lending platform. 

  • ADDI raised a USD36m round in March 2024; GIC led a USD80m round for ADDI in December 2021; Greycroft led a USD75m Series B+ in September 2021. 
  • DEBT | ADDI secured USD35m in debt financing from BBVA Spark in July; ADDI secured USD170m in debt financing from Goldman Sachs and Fasanara Capital in March; Goldman Sachs and Architect Capital provided USD120m in debt financing in December 2021.

▸ Gramercy Funds Management provided a senior secured loan to Colombia-based delivery platform Rappi.

  •  Rappi raised USD100m in debt financing in August.

▸ General Atlantic led a USD40m round for Bold, a Colombian payment platform for SMEs, with participation from the IFC, InQlab and Cóndor Inverlink.

  • Bold raised a USD50m Series C led by General Atlantic in February 2024.

▸ Founders Fund and Sequoia Capital co-led a USD35m Series A for Enter, a Brazilian AI startup developing a legal defense platform for enterprises.

  • Sequoia Capital led a USD5.5m round in March.

▸ OIF Ventures and Sun Hung Kai & Co co-led a ~USD30m round for Brazilian credit platform Pagaleve, with participation from Credit Saison, Endeavor Catalyst and follow-on from Salesforce Ventures, BB Ventures, the CVC fund of Banco do Brasil, and Founder Collective.

  • Salesforce Ventures led a ~USD26m Series A in August 2022.

▸ F-Prime led a USD30m Series B for Kanastra, a Brazil-based capital markets infrastructure startup, with participation from the IFC and follow-on from KASZEK, Valor Capital Group, Quona Capital and Itaú.

  • KASZEK led a ~USD21m Series A in June 2024; Valor Capital Group and Quona Capital co-led a USD13m seed round in June 2023.

▸ HEALTHTECH | Sierra Ventures, Liquid 2 Ventures and Daniel Servitje (Grupo Bimbo) led a USD22m Series A for Eden, a Mexican AI-based medical diagnostics platform. 

  • Sierra Ventures led a USD10m round for Eden in July 2024. 

▸ Krealo led a USD20m round for Remitee, an Argentine cross-border remittances startup.

 

▸ CRYPTO | F-Prime and ParaFi led a USD20m Series B for Lemon, an Argentina-based digital crypto wallet, with participation from Endeavor Catalyst, DRW Venture Capital, Van Eck, Persea VC, Alumni Ventures, Lambda Class and Stani Kulechov (AAVE).  

 

▸ PROPTECH | Prosus Ventures led a USD15m Series A for Lastro, a Brazilian AI agent for the real estate industry, with participation from Endeavor Scale-Up Ventures, FJ Labs, and follow-on from Canary, QED Investors and 1Sharpe Ventures.

  • Canary led a ~USD4m seed round in December 2022. 

▸ HRTECH | Zippi, a Brazilian payroll and credit platform for independent contractors, raised ~USD15m through a FIDC (Fundo de Investimentos em Direitos Creditorios) from Itaú BBA and Verde Asset.

  • Tiger Global led a USD16m Series A in September. 

▸ BotCity, a Brazilian AI governance platform, raised a ~USD12.2m round from undisclosed investors. 

  • Astella Investimentos and SoftBank led a ~USD3m seed round in December 2021. 

▸ PROPTECH | Provence Partners led a ~USD11.3m Series A for CredAluga, a Brazilian rental payment platform, with follow-on from Caravela Capital, Honey Island Capital and Norte Ventures. 

  • Caravela Capital led a ~USD3.8m seed round in October 2024. 

▸ DEBT | AgroForte Digital, a Brazilian lending platform for poultry, swine, eggs and milk producers, raised ~USD11m through a FIDC (Fundo de Investimentos em Direitos Creditorios) from XP Investimentos and EQI. 

  • Brazilian accelerator Futurum Capital led a ~USD1.2m round in February 2022.

▸ HRTECH Kayyak Ventures led a USD11m Series A+ for Rankmi, a Chilean employee recruitment and performance management platform, with participation from IDB Lab. 

  • Rankmi raised an undisclosed Series A in March 2023. 

▸ SECURITY | L4 Venture Builder led a ~USD9.4m round for Caf, a Brazilian digital identity platform.

  • Caf raised a ~USD18m Series A in July 2022.

▸ A-Star led a USD9m seed round for Telepatia AI, a US-based digital assistant for doctors, with participation from Canary, Picus Capital, Abstract VC and SV Angel.

 

▸ Flourish Ventures and Cathay Latam co-led a USD8.5m round for Akua, a Latin American payments platform, with participation from Atlantico, Honey Island Capital, Krealo, the CVC arm of Credicorp and Simma Capital.

  • Propel VC led a USD4.3m seed round in October 2024.

▸ PROPTECH | ALIVE Ventures led a USD6m Series A for Creditú, a Chilean mortgage provider, with participation from L4 Venture Builder. 

 

▸ Variant and Lattice co-led a USD5m round for Takenos, an Argentine cross-border payments platform.

 

▸ NOMO, a US-based app limiting social media use, raised USD4m from Positive Ventures and Harper Court Ventures. 

  • NOMO was founded by Brazilian Leonardo Bursztyn.

▸ Indicator Capital and CMT Digital co-led a USD3.4m round for Lumx, a Brazilian infrastructure provider for stablecoin-based payments. 

 

▸ NXTP led a USD2.8m pre-seed round for Luzid, a US-based Salesforce solutions software, with participation from Oceans Ventures, Quiet Capital, Vitor Olivier (Nubank), David Peixoto (Isaac) and Matias Woloski (Auth0).

 

▸ BIOTECH | Tim Draper led a USD2.5m seed round for Eywa, an Uruguay-based mental health biotechnology startup, with participation from Draper Cygnus, Panambi Ventures and follow-on from Gridx.

  • Uruguay Innovation Hub and The Ganesha Fund invested in December 2024. 

▸ HRTECH | MiChamba, a Mexican WhatsApp-based employee management platform, raised a USD2.25m pre-seed round from Wollef, Audaz Capital and Nido Ventures.

 

▸ Canary led a ~USD1.8m round for Bull, a Brazilian B2B credit platform, with participation from Endeavor Scale-Up Ventures.

 

▸ Alaya Capital led a USD1.2m round for ONE, an Argentine payments infrastructure platform, with participation from Draper Cygnus and Sancor Seguros Ventures. 

 

▸ M2 Digital led a ~USD1m round for WorkAI, a Brazilian AI-based medical assistant. 

 

▸ MAYA Capital led a ~USD1m round for Agent.Shop, a Brazilian e-commerce solutions platform, with participation from Caravela Capital and Mira Capital.

 

▸ BIOTECH | MetaBIX Biotech, a Uruguay-based farm biotechnology startup, raised USD1m from AIR Capital, Danta Fund, The Board Perú and Angel Hub.

 

▸ Kiro, a Brazilian brand of non-alcoholic beverages, raised ~USD565k from GVAngels, Rodrigo Dantas (Vindi), Paulo Silveira (Alura), Ronaldo Lemos (Institute of Technology and Society) and Valéria Amoroso Lima (Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas).

 

▸ Investidores.vc led a ~USD335k round for Guapeco, a Brazilian pet benefit program for corporate employees, with participation from Bossa Invest.

 

▸ FOODTECH | Biotope invested ~USD400k in Typcal, a Brazilian microprotein startup.

 

▸ Immer Messen, a Brazilian network sensor solutions provider, raised ~USD350k from Petrobras. 

 

▸ Nekt, a Brazilian data analysis platform, raised ~USD240k from Norte Ventures. 

  • Alexia Ventures led a ~USD900k round in June. 

▸ CLEANTECH | Captur, a Brazilian solar energy tokenization startup, raised ~USD100k from DOMO.VC and Ventiur Smart Capital. 

 

▸ HEALTHTECH | Unimed VTRP led a ~USD90k round for LimbX, a Brazilian bionic prosthetics startup, with participation from DOMO.VC. 

 

▸ AWS invested in Synthera AI, a Colombian data platform for financial markets. 


▸ EXIT | KPTL exited CHP Brasil, a distributed energy generation company, through a sale to Grupo WLM (distributor of Scania in Brazil).

Funds

▸ Tantauco Ventures (formerly Daedalus Ventures), reached a final close for its second flagship fund to invest in early-stage AI-enabled businesses in Latin America. 

  • Tantauco Ventures is led by Sebastian Piñera. 

▸ CLIMATE | Petrobras launched a USD93m venture fund to invest in early-stage startups building in the clean energy and decarbonisation space.

  • Valetec will be managing the fund. 
  • Petrobras will commit up to 49% of the fund, with BNDES committing up to 25% and FINEP investing ~USD12m. 

▸ Gradient Ventures officially spun out of Google and is raising a USD200m global fund to back early-stage AI startups globally. 

  • Gradient’s LP base now includes Google alongside additional institutional backers and it retains its roughly 250-company portfolio.
  • Gradient Ventures will still be led by General Partners Darian Shirazi and Zach Bratun-Glennon. 
  • Gradient Ventures’ Latin America portfolio includes Toku, Niva and R2. 

▸ Goldman Sachs acquired Industry Ventures, a US-based VC with ~USD7b in AUM, for USD965m. 

  • Total consideration is split between a USD665m cash payment at close, with an additional USD330m contingency through 2030. 
  • Industry Ventures will be incorporated into Goldman’s External Investing Group within its alternatives business.
  • Industry Ventures’ Latin America portfolio included Mendel (Mexico) and CRMBonus (Brazil).
People and Programs

▸ Join us as we keynote the 7th edition of the Korea-LAC Business Summit taking place 27-28 October in Seoul,co-organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Korean Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF), KEXIM and KOTRA.

  • As part of the Summit, the Korea-LAC Venture Capital Meetup 2025, led by IDB Lab and the Korean Global Digital Innovation Network (GDIN), will gather startups and venture investors to strengthen cross-border collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Registration is now open.

▸ Ruta N and Medellin Venture Capital will host “Tendencias de la Industria de VC en LatAm y Colombia”, a virtual webinar featuring Emanuel Hernández, Director of Research at LAVCA, on 28 October at 5:00 pm ET to discuss key findings and perspectives on the evolution of venture capital in the region. Registration is now open.
